Torah Bright

» Snowboarding · Posted 2006-Feb-24 · Link

torah_bright.jpgReasonable people could argue that the hottest Olympians can be found in the sport of figure skating. But reason goes right out the window when it comes to the sport of snowboarding. Its competitors make figure skaters look like a day at Westminster. Maybe it's because we still hold fond memories of that cute girl who smiled at us on the sledding hill back in the day, but snowboarders make us shiver in our snow suits.

Apparently, we're not alone. Many of you have written in to tell us of your fond admiration for (or, in the case of one of you, your borderline psychotic reaction to) Australian snowboarder Torah Bright.

Sounding very much like an adorable font, Torah placed 5th in the women's halfpipe in Turin this year. She says if she wasn't a snowboarder, she'd like to be a rally car driver. We're glad she isn't as it would be a shame to keep those blond good looks hidden under a hat, goggles, and logos for erectile dysfunction aids.

Torah lives and trains in Salt Lake City and she's a committed Mormon, which makes her the hottest member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since uh... that one girl from MTV's The Real World.

Sasha Cohen

» Figure Skating · · Posted 2006-Feb-22 · Link

Ah, Sasha Cohen.

studio11.jpgSasha reminds us of an August afternoon we spent playing Nintendo at our friend Dave's house, when an intense game of Metroid was interrupted by the return of Dave's sister, who had spent all summer at camp. As we watched her disappear into her bedroom, we turned to Dave and said six words that no man should say to another man: "Dude, your sister's kind of hot."

Sasha Cohen is that kind of hot. The kind of hot that should remain unspoken. The kind of hot that, when acknowledged, gets you hit in the face with a Nintendo controller.

Still. Damn.

The 22-year old won the short program yesterday and in doing so, edged out Irina Slutskaya* by 0.03 points. The gold medal winner will be decided Thursday during the ladies' free skate.

Meanwhile, we're going to keep trying to convince our significant other to do that thing where she pulls her leg up parallel to her body. That's a neat trick.

* We know, we know. But some jokes are just too easy.

Tanith Belbin

» Ice Dancing · · Posted 2006-Feb-17 · Link

tanith2.jpgWe're getting a lot of e-mails about your favorite athletes. It's comforting to know that you're as interested in hotness...er, Olympians prowess as we are. And if we had a nickel for every e-mail we've received about Tanith Belbin, we'd be one rich website.

Tanith, a native of Canada, and her partner Ben Agosto begin their first event today, the compulsory dance (we always though compulsory dance was something the teachers made us do at junior high school mixers). Their routines this year feature salsa and cha cha music, which make for some sexy moves out on the ice.

Her bio on the NBC Olympics site goes into a convoluted explanation of how Tanith acquired citizenship in the U.S. in order to compete in this year's games. Something about an appropriations bill. Whatever. We're just pleased to see the U.S. government taking steps to ensure the presence of hotties on the U.S. Olympians team.

Seth Wescott

» Posted 2006-Feb-17 · Link

sethwescott.JPGAhh, the snowboarder: America's unsung, laid-back, slightly crunchy heroes for the modern age. It's difficult not to love them, especially one as adorable as Seth Wescott. This North Carolina native did his country proud with a gold medal showing in the Men's Snowboard Cross event in Torino, capping a stellar career of World Cup and X Games performances over the past five years.

What's next for America's newest Olympian sweetheart? Well it sounds like the hippie dream come true: According to his Web site, Wescott just purchased a VW vanagon (no, really, we're not making this up) and is in the process of opening "The Rack," a barbecue restaurant and brewery in the Sugarloaf Valley of Maine. Sounds like a guy who's really got his priorities in order...

For now, our priority will be looking at as many pics of Seth as we can find.

Thanks, David...

Erjon Tola: His Story

» Posted 2006-Feb-16 · Link

tola-02.gifWe here at Hot Olympians HQ often wonder if what we're doing truly matters. Yes, the Olympianss would go on without us, but would watching the coverage from Torino be as fun?

We're moved when we receive emails like the one that just popped up in our inbox. Last week, we mentioned Erjon Tola, Albania's only -- and a hot one at that -- entrant in the XX Olympians Games. Little information was available on this hottie, until we received an email with pics from Erjon's sister, Marina. Yes, the Olympians Games -- and hotathletes.org -- do bring the world together. Join us in sending our best to Erjon and his family.

Hi!I'm Marina,Erjon's sister, the one athlet of Albania.I write you cause I saw my brother's photo on your website.I would say that we have to say thanks to many people for having done us the possibility to take part to the XX Olympians Winter Games but at first I must thank our parents (like Albania should do) cause till this moment Erjon has been sponsorized by my mother and my fother that have invested on him all they had. And, of course, I thank Erjon, that with his forces and his willingness during all these years has trained himself, before with the SKI CLUB CERVINO-VALTOURNENCHE,and now with his personal trainer,Roberto Bonavita.Erjon has been skiing here in Cervinia (Aosta Valley) since 1993,when he was 6 years old,and has reached his aim,he succeded in being qualified in 3 specialities:super G,giant and slalom!

But we hope that these Olympians Games will be a "stilt of throwing" (in italian we say "trampolino di lancio") for Erjon, cause it's a pity to stop here...I say so cause he's only 19 and he has many qualities...it's for this reason that we're looking for sponsors for the period after the games.Because, how my fother tells, you can't become a champion with the money of your pocket!

P.S.I'm sending you also some photo of Erjon skiing and other.

Thanks for the collaboration.
Friendly
Marina

Kati Wilhelm

» Biathlon · · Posted 2006-Feb-16 · Link

kati.jpgWhen someone told us that German Kati Wilhelm was a "biathlete" we thought "Damn, that's totally hot." Then we discovered that "biathlete" doesn't mean what we thought it meant.

Still, it's hard to argue against the hotness of a woman with a gun. With her blazing red hair and killer smile, Wilhelm has us begging to surrender. In 2002, she won the gold in the sprint and the relay and brought home the silver in the pursuit. Though she missed the podium in the sprint this year, she's scheduled for the pursuit this weekend.

The pictures on her official site show she looks good in just about anything, but our favorite picture of hers is this one where she looks like she's about to start kicking ass, Alias-style.

Jeremy Bloom

» Posted 2006-Feb-16 · Link

bloom-06.jpgThere's just no denying it: Jeremy Bloom is a hot, hot piece of Olympians goodness, and was certainly one of America's brightest stars heading into the 2006 games. Sure, there's that whole issue of his, um, not really winning a medal in yesterday's moguls competition, but it's not like the guy will be hurting for athletic opportunities any time soon.

Bloom is one of those naturally athletic wonderboys who turns every sport he touches into gold; today it's skiing, and - given that this adonis gave up a successful college football career because the NCAA wouldn't permit him to accept ski endorsements - he'll likely be setting a course for the NFL sometime soon.

Worry not, Jeremy - wherever you go, our eyes will faithfully follow... like after the jump, where we offer another tantalizing pic of Jeremy!

Brian Joubert

» Posted 2006-Feb-15 · Link

Hot Olympians come in a variety of shapes, sizes and flavors. For those that like their Olympians heroes baby-faced, lean and French, we proudly offer figure skater Brian Joubert. Joubert may look like a lamb, but it's only a facade; the 21-year-old is actually somewhat of a heart-throb in his homeland, where he is known to roar along the countryside in motorcycles and sports cars, and has even been spotted in the company of Miss France!

Yes, that's Miss France he was with... we love a man who can defy stereotypes.

Brian's event is actually underway as we write this; if you can't tune in to take a peek, though, and would like to tide yourself over with a pic of the young buck doing a nude turn (well, wearing only white socks and kicks), we'll see you after the jump....

Cassie and Jamie Johnson

» Curling · · Posted 2006-Feb-15 · Link

cassie.jpgBack in high school, science class always left us feeling bored (although Anatomy managed to hold our attention). But after seeing pictures of U.S. Olympians curlers Cassie and Jamie Johnson, we've suddenly developed a huge interest in genetics.

jamie.jpgThe sisters hail from the "hotbed of curling" that is Bemidji, Minneosta. Cassie holds the crucial skip position while her older sister Jamie is vice-skip. They began curling together back in grade school while you were still trying to master kickball. Their sisterly bond will no doubt help them in a sport that requires a team effort to win. Something the Americans are hoping to do against Denmark today.

Clearly there's something in the water in the land of Paul Bunyan. But the Johnson sisters' wholesome good looks are tempering our libidinous nature. Getting it on with two sisters has always been a fantasy of ours, so why is it that looking at Cassie and Jamie just makes us want to put on flannel, bake cookies, and talk about our feelings? What's up with that?

Women of the Luge

» Luge · · · Posted 2006-Feb-14 · Link

Ever since we saw Samantha Retrosi's crash yesterday, the luge has been on our mind (which is a change of pace since normally the Nuge is on our minds since we've always got cat scratch fever).

While U.S. luger Courtney Zablocki is a fine World Cup competitor and definitely has a cuteness thing going on, one need look no further than the country of Germany to find women that truly dominate in the luge. Speaking of German lugers we'd like to be dominated by, have you met Sylke and Silke? The homonym-ally named Germans may look rough-and-tumble flying down the ice-covered luge runs but they "clean up good" as your grandmother might say. Mses. Otto and Kraushaar can be seen in some fine evening wear here (and below).

Of course the hottest luger at Torino is Canadian Regan Lauscher. Reader Tom Baker e-mailed us to say she's the "hottest female athlete at the games." The judges here at Hot Athletes are still tallying up their final scores in that event, but you can read some of Regan's Olympians diary entries here.

Apolo Anton Ohno

» Posted 2006-Feb-14 · Link

Say it with us now: Apolo. Anton. Ohno. With a name like that, people are just bound to compare you to a god. And with a last name like "Ohno," well... the headlines are going to be just so easy to write when you screw up.

But it's Valentine's Day, and we're not going to focus on Apolo's disappointing 8th place finish in the Men's 1500M short track speed skating event yesterday; instead, we're going to focus on the soul patch. A style statement it may be, but we at hotathletes.org like to think of Apolo's soul patch as the modern day equivalent of Samson's hair; it is the mystical source of his power, his strength and his agility on the ice. To shave it would render him powerless.

This theory clearly opens up some questions: if Apolo's strength comes from his soul patch, for what can he use those tremendous speed skater quads? Well, Apolo, we'll be glad to show you... in private.

Gretchen Bleiler

» Snowboarding · · Posted 2006-Feb-13 · Link

bleiler-01.jpgIn Torino, it's not hotness that matters--it's skill. Of course, the U.S. Snowboarding team has both in spades thanks to Gretchen Bleiler.

Gretchen was the first Olympian to appear on our site this year and she just took home the silver in the women's halfpipe finals. The Toledo, Ohio native is appearing in her first Olympianss.

But just as important to us was her appearance in swimwear in a 2004 issue of FHM.

Bode Miller

» Posted 2006-Feb-13 · Link

Poor Bode Miller. Though America's great white hope for the Winter 2006 games - a 2005 World Cup title holder and Salt Lake City silver medalist - has said that he's not really out for medals in Torino, the entire U.S. seemed to release a collective, disappointed breath at his lackluster 5th place finish in this weekend's downhill event.

He's still hot, though... markedly so. And because he has yet another chance for gold medal glory in Tuesday's Winter Alpine Combined competition, we're giving him our official blessing today.

We've all heard plenty about Miller by now; he's graced countless magazine covers in recent months, noted consistently for his bad-boy image (which we just love), outspoken nature and aggressive ski style. He seems poised to invigorate the skiing community like Mr. Armstrong did for biking, and even published an autobiography, Go Fast, Be Good, Have Fun - which we haven't read, but hope includes plenty of steamy details on how a home-schooled New Hampshire country boy rose to national prominence and extreme hotness.

The anti-Bode movement should be kicking into high gear in the next few weeks - especially if he doesn't deliver tomorrow - but as long as he keeps looking like he does, he can suck as long as he wants...

Kris Freeman

» Posted 2006-Feb-12 · Link

Our friend Mark is our top Hot Olympian scout. He's always eagle-eyed in finding the hottest of hot from Torino. Today, he brought Kris Freeman to our attention. Say hello to Kris!

Sure, it's rough work training to be Olympians caliber, but Kris has an extra challenge that most athletes don't have. At 20, doctors told him his athletic career was over because he had diabetes. Five years later and he's competing with the best in Torino.

He's hot and he's a fighter, which makes him one special Hot Olympian. And, from this picture here on the right, he looks like he stepped out of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog.

Pictures of Kris' six-pack abs after the jump.

Welcome to Hot Athletes, the hot men and women of some sporting event going on right now in the world.
